The second novel set in the Old Republic era and based on the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars®: The Old Republic™ ramps up the action and brings readers face-to-face for the first time with a Sith warrior to rival the most sinister of the Order’s Dark Lords—Darth Malgus, the mysterious, masked Sith of the wildly popular “Deceived” and “Hope” game trailers.Malgus brought down the Jedi Temple on Coruscant in a brutal assault that shocked the galaxy. But if war crowned him the darkest of Sith heroes, peace would transform him into something far more heinous—something Malgus would never want to be, but cannot stop, any more than he can stop the rogue Jedi fast approaching. Her name is Aryn Leneer—and the lone Knight that Malgus cut down in the fierce battle for the Jedi Temple was her Master. And now she’s going to find out what happened to him, even if it means breaking every rule in the book. Veertype, Brilliant!!Deceived is a novelization of the video game trailer for Bioware’s latest Star Wars game. At first glance you might think it would be a complete POS but incredibly this is one of the best Star Wars novels to be released in years. I don’t know anything about Paul Kemp except he is a great writer who does a brilliant job of creating characters.
Star Wars villains are mostly evil for the sake of evil. They beat kittens to death and laugh about it – why?
Because they are evil and that is what evil people do and they laugh about it.I believe it was Akira Kurosawa who said that villains are heroes, who, when faced with the hard choices made the wrong decisions. Kemp really drives this home in his writing.

The Writer creates, in Darth Malgus, a believable villain who is intriguing and capable. He isn’t simply a plot device or puzzle for the hero to solve he is a driven character with real motivations and intelligence.
Like the characters Deceived has few of the formulaic design patterns of Star Wars novels this keeps it fresh and unexpected if only because you are expecting the classic Star Wars 3 act plot formula and never really get it. Kemp’s writing style gives you rich believable heroes that aren’t just cardboard cutouts of previous Star Wars icons. The action of Deceived is well paced and given an appropriate gravity without the aftermath being overly dramatic. He has an understanding of real martial arts and fighting and does a good job of portraying combat.I will be reading any and all Paul Kemp novels I come across in the future and recommend him to anyone who is a fan of science fiction.

Hopefully, he will gain a bigger role in the Star Wars expanded universe in the future. AFristik, Great!I really enjoyed this audiobook.
I was debating if I should buy this after seeing the Hope and Deceived trailers for that new computer game they have coming out. I was very glad I got it.
The Narrator was excellent although the voices of the girls were a bit strange but easy to get use to. It was almost as if I was watching this as a movie and I really hope they consider making this into a film, the combinations of music and sound effects really pull you in, Excellent fight scene's, suspense, and a little love. A really great one I can't wait for Star Wars TOR: Revan in November I hope the same narrator does that one.
